Default Engine Knocking, and Low Rpm's

So I recently just relocated from Boise Id, to Lakeland Fl. I drove my 04 F150 the whole way. The 2nd day of the trip I ran out of oil, as soon as I noticed the check engine light come on, and heard the sound of grinding metal I shut the truck off immediately. I filled it up with oil and it held all of it and never leaked or anything after that. But everytime time I come to a stop and my RPM's decrease they seem to drop to low and the truck stalls, so I have to put the truck into neutral for it to stay running while im stopped. There is also a slight knocking sound coming from the top of the block. Has anyone else had the same problem? The weird thing is that I lost all of my oil when it was full to begin with, and now that I filled it up again its holding the oil perfectly fine.

Welcome to the forum. I hate to say it but it sounds like you may have damaged the upper end of the engine. When they get all hot and bothered like that things tend to get tight from expansion and that causes it to labor at idle.

I would have the top end looked at to see how things look.

Default Anyone else have this odd issue?

Read above. I would imagine more than 2 trucks had this issue.
