Default HELP! Name this '87 F150 cooling part

My 1987 F150 2wd 5.0L engine has a cooling system part that adjusts coolant flow. It is on the big hose that carries coolant from the water pump to the bottom of the radiator. I have links to 2 photos below. It should have 3 wires attached to it... Cleaning the wire contacts I broke off one of them, which is why I need to find a replacement. But I can't find a replacement if I don't know the name. Strangely, my Chilton's guide has no info on this. With it not hooked up, my engine runs too cool much of the time; then when I climb mountain passes it overheats so I have to pull off and let the engine cool for an hour.
My pictures are taken with me looking up while on the ground under the driver's side of the radiator.
Thanks in advance to anybody who can help!
