Default Fuel pump problems 1997 f150 4x4 xlt 4.6

My fuel pump won't work.
This is what I have checked:
20 amp fuse good
New fuel pump relays (3)
12 volts to pt. 30 on relay box
12 volts to pt. 86 on relay box when key is turned on.
checked inertia switch ok plus bypassed
Hooked up tester to plug at pump.
When switch turned on 12 volts for one sec. then goes to 6.6 volts.
Pulled relay and jumped pt. 30 to pt. 87 on relay box.
12 volts at pump plug and stayed at 12 volts
Pump runs when hooked direct.

What next? Help Help Help

Thanks,
Saltydwg

The PCM only provides 12 VDC to the fuel pump prior to startup in order to prime the fuel rail and then voltage is dropped until the engine is running and then the voltage steps back up.

I have to assume that the truck isn't running? Have you replaced the fuel filter on the left frame rail as well?

Default Fuel pump problem

The truck is not running.
The fuel tank is out.
Changed the filter.
Going to put fuel tank back in since I know pump runs.
Could the pcm be bad since the power to pump is 12 volts for a split second?
By the way where is the PCM located?
Is there something between the key switch and the relay that could go bad?
Truck ran fine night before problem, next morning it wouldn't start.

Default Fuel pump problem

The electrical diagram for fuel pump shows key switch to fuel pump relay feeds the PCM and fuel pump. While feeding PCM it energizes switch to close pt. 87a to pt. 87 on relay.

Stumped

Start from the tank and work forward. Make sure, with power applied, the pump is picking up fuel and pushing it through the fuel line to the filter. Check past the filter if that was good to the fuel pressure regulator and then closer to the injector. There should be good fuel pressure all the way through to the injectors.

Default Fuel pump problems

My fuel pump won't stay on long enough to pump fuel.
The pump just comes on for a split second and shuts off.
Even if I turn switch off and on.
Even if I leave starter turned on.

I had thought the pump was still out of the tank where you could apply a constant 12 VDC to it to ensure it isn't clogged or anything.

Good thought Mr. Mac.
Tank not installed yet.
Will remove pump from tank and immerse it in gas to see if it will pump gas.
Pump runs but don't know if it pumps gas, Duh
Get back to you later Mr. Mac.

Pump runs with 12 volts direct, constant pressure and pumps gas.
