Default Install 93/94 auto trans in 90 f150?

The AOD transmission in my 90 f150 w/302 has been rebuilt but still has noise and clunks. I've been convinced that is standard stuff with this trans. I have also been told you can install a later model (93/94) trans w/computer chip and solve these problems. I would like to know how to go about this. Anybody out there dealt with this situation?
