Fuel Gauge Problem

11832 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Mr Mac
I just got my truck back from the body shop after hail damage repairs.

When I started the truck up the low fuel light came on and the gas guage was setting to the far left below the E.

I drove to the nearest station but was able to put only 10 gallons in a 30 gallon tank.

After fueling the gauge was in the same positon and the low fuel light was still on.

If the boduy shop disconnected the battery could that have caused the problem??

It could be the sending unit died or the associated wiring is either disconnected or damaged. The wires to the sending unit (located in the tank) are yel/white and blk/or. Find them and trace them as far as you can to see if they're damaged and if not then it is most likely the sending unit itself which requires the tank be dropped.
