I have an intermittent sound like a relay clicking or a wire tapping against something or even bubbles escaping in a tube. I also considered it was a duct expanding and causing noise but no amount of sponges stopped the noise. It does this on even a slightly rough road. It quits if I am stopped. The dealer replaced the blend door but that was not it. It seems to come from above the glove box and I wonder if a faulty airbag could be makiing the noise. It is a 2013 F150 Lariat with navigation and voice sync if any of that matters. Help
Lots of stuff up in the dash area that could be causing that noise, but I don't think the SRS is the culprit. Anything at all goes wrong with that system and a whole host of sensors go off! I'd have them do a thorough check for any bits of plastic or paper caught in the mess of wiring behind the box.
Thanks Mr Mac for the reply, much appreciated I can't find any wires or tags that might make this noise. I'm going to provide a link to a Youtube video that is about 40 seconds that plays the noise (sounds like a small bug zapper to me?). Hope that helps you or anyone else to give me another clue. THANKS, Ralph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYjRuqZIooY
Does it make this noise with the heater/ac blower both on and off? Hard to say from video but it sounds like something inside the heat/ac ducting rattling around. I once had a matchbook fall down the defroster vent and it made a similar noise with the fan on until I took all that apart and pulled it out.
(does it make this noise with the heater/ac blower both on and off?...) Thanks for your reply. It does make the noise whether heater is on or off. But since my post I did get it fixed. The culprit is the Brake Assist Pump sometimes called the ABS Assist Vaccuum Pump. It sits right next to the firewall (that's why the sound appeared to come through the glovebox). It was leaking fluid onto the 3.5L V6 turbo and the mechanic saw smoke. When the mechanic took the part out, he could move it around causing the popping sound. Now I also called Ford and they indicated that in 2013 only on the Ecoboost 3.5L V6, they replaced an electric pump with a vacuum operated pump and it was making noise in some vehicles - their solution could be a baffle (not engineered yet). The leaking made the noise louder. Unfortunately the noise continued after the pump was sealed as I think the mechanic only fixed the seal and did not replace the pump. I had to swap this F150 for a nother new one with a 5.0 L v8 which I like more anyway as it turns out. That's all I know at this time.
